What to Look For in a Program

What should you be looking for in an educational program?

  1. Is the content relevant?

This is a key question you should be asking yourself when you are looking at different programs.  If every program is going to cover the 89 topics required by the CFP® Board, how do you know which programs are more relevant?  One good way to know is to ask former students if the information was focused and helped them pass the CFP® Board exam.  Stephanie Dennard, who completed this program and passed the CFP® Board exam in March of 2007 had this to say, “This program provided the foundation necessary to pass the CFP® Board exam.”

Another thing you will want to look at is the program can help you when you take what you’ve learned to the real world.  Through our Knowledge for the Real World courses, which are available for an additional $300, you will learn how to take what you’ve learned and apply it to your everyday interactions with your clients.  One student who went through our KFRW lessons said, “I have started using the techniques already and I believe it will help me bring in MILLIONS of dollars of assets.”

  1. Is the content engaging?

Especially with an online or at-home program, the content has to be engaging.  If it’s not, it is too easy to lose focus and not get the most out of every dollar you pay.  This program was created by professionals with more than a decade of experience in creating effective online training materials.  We know how to keep students engaged – an incredibly important factor when taking on such a large endeavor.

  1. Will I have access to a partner that will help guide me through?

When going through an online or at-home program, it is vital to have a partner on the other side.  It’s certainly important to have access to the instructors, but it’s equally important to be able to communicate with a person who will respond quickly, and a person who wants to help you succeed.

Our students have said, “Every time I had a question, it was easy to email and I always received a response back quickly.”  Another student said, “I was impressed with the responsiveness of my advisor – both timely and thorough.  I appreciated him getting others involved when he thought it would be helpful to me.”
