CFP Board Establishes 501(c)(6) to Focus on Workforce Development

CFP® Board Updates

The CFP Board announced in January that they have established a new 501(c)(6) to help achieve their strategic workforce development priorities.  The end result will be a 501(c)(3) called the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning and a 501(c)(6) called the CFP Board of Standards.

Why are they taking this action?

The change to create a 501(c)(6) was seen as an opportunity to position the board to better promote the benefits of a financial planning career and advance the financial planning profession to benefit the public.  The 501(c)(3) status was limiting their ability and opportunities to do so.

How will this impact CFP® Professionals?

There should be very little impact to CFP® Professionals – in both how they interact with the CFP Board and their clients.  Professionals, candidates for certification, organizations and educational institutions will continue to use the same online portals and interact with the same staff.
