CFP Board’s New OBBBA Planning Resources & Webinar Series

CFP® Board Updates

As financial professionals begin navigating the wide-ranging implications of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), the CFP Board is stepping in with critical support. In an August announcement, the Board previewed the launch of two key resources: a peer-reviewed planning guide and a live webinar series aimed at helping CFP® professionals and candidates prepare for the practical impact of the new law.

These resources are expected to be released this October — and they come at the perfect time, as planners help clients digest the tax law changes and students begin preparing for the March 2026 exam window when OBBBA content is expected to appear.

What’s Being Released

  • 1. OBBBA Peer-Reviewed Planning Guide

This resource will offer detailed interpretation of the law’s provisions — not just a summary, but an advisor-focused breakdown of how it affects client decisions on taxes, retirement, charitable giving, estate planning, and more.

  • 2. Live Webinar Series Hosted by CFP Board

The webinars will provide interactive learning opportunities, including Q&A with subject matter experts. These sessions are designed to be useful both for practicing professionals and those currently enrolled in a CFP® certification program.

The CFP Board emphasized that these materials are being designed to support both client-facing strategy and exam preparation.

Why This Matters

For many in the planning profession, the scope of the OBBBA — which includes adjustments to tax brackets, the SALT deduction cap, retirement savings rules, and the introduction of new “Trump Accounts” — is both exciting and overwhelming. There’s still uncertainty around how many of these changes will be testable content, but that clarity is expected by late October when the CFP Board updates its Principal Knowledge Topics.

This makes October’s OBBBA resources not just helpful, but essential.

  • If you're advising clients: The peer-reviewed guide will help you interpret law changes and proactively adjust planning strategies before year-end.
  • If you're a CFP® candidate: The webinars and supporting materials will give you a jump start on understanding what may be tested — and how to prepare.
  • If you're an educator or firm leader: These resources can supplement your internal training and continuing education efforts.

Bottom Line

With new laws come new expectations — from clients, from regulators, and from the certification process. By releasing focused, high-quality resources on the OBBBA, the CFP Board is giving the profession the tools it needs to stay compliant, competitive, and client-ready.
