CFP Board Sanctions

CFP® Certificants in the News
The authority to display the CFP® mark is a privilege, not an absolute right. Recent CFP Board disciplinary actions underscore that point emphatically. We’ll summarize three such actions in this article, beginning with Public Censure.
Public Censure
- A CFP®certificant was publicly censured for two disclosure failures on their ethics statement to CFP Board, including a failure to disclose a “no contest” plea on a relevant misdemeanor and failure to disclose a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing.
- The case report implies that the discipline was relatively light because the Chapter 7 filing was caused by factors substantially outside of the control of the certificant.
