Record Breaking March 2025 CFP Board Exam Results

CFP® Board Updates

The CFP Board has announced the results of the March 2025 CFP® Certification Exam, which saw a record-breaking 3,854 candidates sit for the test during the March 18–25 window. This figure surpasses the March 2024 high of 3,683 exam-takers, signaling continued growth in the financial planning profession. The overall pass rate for this exam cycle was 65%. CFP Board CEO Kevin R. Keller emphasized the increasing demand for CFP® certification, noting it as a testament to more financial professionals committing to client-centered, ethical financial planning.

According to a post-exam survey, the top motivation for pursuing certification was to demonstrate job expertise (40%), followed by a desire to distinguish oneself as a fiduciary (33%). Additionally, 24% of candidates reported receiving some financial support from their employers. The exam demographics point to a younger cohort entering the field, with 72% of test-takers under 40 and 41% under 30—both increases from the November 2024 cycle. The ten states with the most participants included California, Texas, and Florida, contributing to over half of the total candidate pool.
