The CFP Board has recently altered a key component to CFP certification – the experience requirement. Previously, those seeking CFP certification were required to gain three (3) years of relevant financial planning experience prior to the CFP Board of Standards issuing the CFP marks. On September 1, 2012, the Board will now recognize two (2) years of full-or part-time experience. Highlights of the experience requirement changes include the following:
- The CFP Board will now recognize two (2) years of full-or part-time work experience.
- The experience can occur within ten (10) years BEFORE or five (5) years AFTER a CFP board exam completion.
- Those contemplating CFP certification and wondering whether their experience would qualify can now submit their previous experience to the CFP Board for review.
